English Language Development

The School Management has introduced value addition to its existing teaching strategy. It identified suitable third party agencies to provide specially trained teaching instructors and technology based solutions to bring radical change in English Language standard of the students from LKG onwards. It introduced Multimedia based English Phonics Program for LKG, UKG and 1st standard students to improve their listening, speaking and reading abilities by adopting ‘fun learning methodology’. The school has started Communicative English classes from 3rd standard to 9th standard with the help of specially trained third party instructors. The school has established an English Language Laboratory (ELL) and adopted a special software to improve English grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation with the help of English Language Usage Practice sessions from 1st standard to 9th standard. These efforts are going on for the last couple of years with positive emerging results in the form of ‘Parents’ Satisfaction.’

English Language Lab (ELL)

To stimulate the listening and speaking abilities among the students, Ramakrishna Mission High School established an English language lab consisting of 40 networked desktop computer systems with audio head-gear, a teacher console, projector and screen. The English Language Lab is equipped with a unique software with rich multimedia content. This innovative cutting-edge technology is the most comprehensive English Language Training Programme with blended learning approach. The lab exercises are in the form of game, quiz and roleplays. This complementary English Language Training programme is strengthening the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation of students from Class 1 to Class 10 in a graded way. Apart from this, the English language lab is also empowered with another exclusive language software for rigorous practice of pronunciation and communications.

Utilization

Communicative English Program (CEP)

To improve Communicative English skills of students, the school has engaged the services of a third party. Two of its instructors are camping at our school throughout the year. Communicative English classes were introduced into the regular weekly timetable and every section from Classes 3 to 9 will have two classes per week. Apart from taking Communicative English classes, the instructors build a culture in the school by various incentives making all teachers and students use English language for normal oral transactions in the school. They make the students participate in specially designed fun activities encouraging peer to peer conversations in English. Within two years, students picked up Communicative English skills. Parents are expressing their utmost satisfaction and giving feedback that their children are freely conversing and expressing themselves in English without any hesitation. With the introduction of Communicative English classes, the students developed ability to converse in English with ease just like students from elite communities.

Technology driven English teaching approach to LKG, UKG and 1st Standard Kids

Brain activation that is happening in learning mother-tongue from birth to schooling age is missing in the child when it comes to learning the second language, viz., English. Under these circumstances, a combination of listening and vocalization seems to be the most biologically advantageous method of acquiring the second language skills by the children at young age. Ramakrishna Mission High School adopted a technology driven approach to teach English to LKG, UKG and 1st Standard children with an interactive, colourful and visually appealing content by way of stories, songs, drama and rhymes. It trains the children to speak with proper intonation and pronunciation. It also helps the children to improve their reading skills. This programme also brought a momentum in the communication process in English in the pre-primary phase of our school children. They are eager to act and imitate according to the rhyme or song with associated animations on the projector screen.
